Once considered a luxury, Personal Training has become an absolute necessity for anyone interested in seeing results quickly and safely. Personal Trainers work with your individual needs to create a plan for success. Whether you are planning to run your first 5k, or you have a health condition that requires you to have a supervised exercise routine, our Personal Training Staff can assist you with all your needs.

All of our trainers have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in the Health Science field as well as a nationally recognized certification. Many have additional training in specialties such as:

Kristi Tuck

Kristi is the Fitness Center Director at The MAC and East Hills and has been with the company since 1993. Her certifications include ACSM Health Fitness Specialist, ACE Clinical Exercise Specialist and Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant, and Wellcoaches® Wellness Coach. In addition to specialty programs such as Exercise for Pregnancy, Diabetes and Breast Cancer, Kristi also holds a certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from Cornell University and the T. Colin Campbell Foundation. She has presented to various institutions on the benefits of living a healthy life and has helped people reach their goals for over 20 years.

Kim Garcia-Odykirk

Kim has been with the company since 1991. She has a Bachelor of Science in both Health Fitness and Psychology in addition to numerous advanced certifications.
Kim understands that the body is a complex matrix that sustains multi-layered stresses both physical and emotional that can manifest as dis-ease, muscular-skeletal pain and dysfunction, tightness, irritability and lack of energy to name a few.
Kim has over 20 years hands-on experience integrating various methods to help individuals function at their very best by:
Sustaining Youthfulness
· by gaining flexibility and
· greater range of motion
Maximizing Strength
· by re-programming functional muscle memory and
· applying progressive exercise
Minimizing Pain
· by helping to erase dysfunctional muscle memory with specific hands-on techniques and
· to re-align the body using corrective exercises to help minimize postural energy drains

Mitch Shooks

Mitch has been with East Hills since June of 1999. He has held certifications with ACE & NASM as a Certified Personal Trainer and with NSCA as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He is certified in Level 1 Fullbody Fascial Stretch Therapy. He also holds the Poliquin PICP Level 1 & 2 Certification and is a candidate for Level 3. Mitch is the only trainer in Michigan to hold the Biosignature Modulation and PIMST certifications. “I am interested in results, period, and I want them in as short a time as possible. I honor my time and my worth and that of my clients, and I strive to be the most educated trainer I can be. When you are ready for a different level of training, it’s time to come see me.”

Carrie Heim

Carrie has been with The MAC since 1998.  She holds certifications with NASM as a Personal Trainer and Resist-a-Ball as a Core Conditioning specialist.  Her specialty certifications include: Posture and the Post Rehab Client, Balance and Speed, Core Strength Development, Functional Integrated Training, Meal Pattern Nutrition counseling and bioCorrect Foot/Ankle Assessment.  Carrie's clients include those looking to recover from overuse injuries, those with hip, knee, and joint pain, as well as those just looking to lose weight and build strength.  She also enjoys training a variety of people with special needs and helping them reach their fitness goals.

Gina Huizingh

Gina has been with The MAC since November of 2000. She is certified with NASM as a Personal Trainer and holds specialty certifications from AFPA in Nutritional Consultation and Pregnancy and Exercise. She has worked as an Exercise Specialist in outpatient physical therapy and with a variety of weight management programs. In June 2009, Gina completed her training as a Wellness Coach and is ready to work with you and your wellness needs.

Terri McElwee

Terri joined East Hills and The MAC in July 2007. She is certified with NSCA as a Personal Trainer and AFAA as a Group Exercise Instructor. In June 2009 Terri completed her training as a Wellness Coach. She works with a diverse client base, from those with special needs to athletes. She enjoys helping people improve their fitness levels, reach their fitness goals and live healthier lifestyles.

Nick Klein

Nick joined The MAC and East Hills in December 2009 after completing his B.S. in Health Fitness in Preventative and Rehabilitative Programs from CMU. Nick is certified as a Personal Trainer through Charles Poliquin (PICP), as well as ACSM. He is a certified Biosignature Practitioner (Nutrition Consultant/Body Composition) as well as a certified Fascial Stretch Therapist through Stretch to
Win(R). In addition to Nick’s professional training, he is an accomplished boxer. “I have the knowledge to work with any individual and am looking forward to helping you reach your goals.”

Chris has been with East Hills since January 1995, and in January 2004 became the Fitness Center Operations Assistant. She holds certifications with AFAA as a Certified Personal Trainer and the IDEA as a Resistance Trainer. Chris specializes in prenatal fitness and Resistance Training and is committed to helping others obtain a healthy lifestyle so they can enjoy life to the fullest.

Joe joined The MAC and East Hills in September of 2006. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Hope College in Exercise Science. Joe holds his certification with NASM as a Certified Personal Trainer. He is also currently working toward continuing his education in physical therapy. Joe played three years of football in college and enjoys high intensity training. His clientele consists of athletes, injury rehabilitation, weight loss, and anyone who enjoys being fit. Joe enjoys learning about new and innovative advances in the field of personal training and is committed to making sure his clients achieve their personal goals.

Kris has been with East Hills since May of 2005, and with the MAC since 2006. She holds certifications with National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Certified Personal Trainer and ACSM as a Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer. Kris teaches Cancer Well-fit™ and Diabetes Wellness exercise classes in collaboration with Saint Mary’s Health Care. Kris enjoys helping clients of all levels and abilities achieve their goals.

Bill has been with East Hills and The MAC since November 2004. He is certified with NASM as a Personal Trainer and as a Corrective Exercise Specialist, ACSM as a Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer and MAD DOG Spinning as a Cycling Instructor. Bill has taught our Cancer Well-fit™ exercise classes since 2005 and specializes in rehabilitating cancer survivors. Bill also works in Group Fitness, teaching cycling classes and group strength training.

Angie has been with East Hills and The MAC since January 1994. She holds 2 certifications with AFAA as a Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer. She is also a Certified Personal Trainer with NASM. Angie holds certifications with Madd Dog Spinning, YogaFit, BodyPump and BodyStep. Angie is an excellent motivator and her excitement for fitness is contagious, so if it's education, hard work and motivation you are looking for...come be inspired.

David Schlaufman

David joined The MAC and East Hills in December 2008 and has his certification with ACSM as a Health Fitness Specialist. David is active in most sports, from golf to surfing and played tennis and basketball at the collegiate level. Along with his experience in the Cancer Well-fit™ Program, his training specialties include weight loss and athletic/strength training as well as general fitness using a wide variety of training techniques that fit any individual’s needs.

Andrea joined the MAC and East Hill in August 2010. She holds her degree in Clinical Exercise Science from GVSU. Andrea is certified with NSCA as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. In addition to competing in a variety of sports including track and basketball, Andrea has received awards at the high school and collegiate level. Upon completion of her internship at Spectrum Health in Cardiac Rehabilitation, Andrea has gained experience working with client’s individual considerations. Andrea is ready to help you reach your personal health goals and improved quality of life.

Ray joined The MAC and East Hills fitness center team in October of 2010. He is certified through the American Council on Exercise as a Personal Trainer. Ray has attended GVSU in the area of Sports Leadership with an emphasis on Sports Management and Physical Education. Formerly a United States Marine, Ray knows first-hand how hard work and dedication can payoff. If you are ready to be the best you can be, Ray is ready for you.

Kellie McPherson

Kellie joined East Hills and The MAC in 2011, she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree at Aquinas College and is certified through National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Certified Personal Trainer. Kellie has competed in soccer and basketball at the collegiate level. She also enjoys staying active all year by hiking, kayaking and downhill skiing. Not only is she passionate about helping others achieve their fitness goals, she is an experienced soccer coach and holds her Level E coaching license through Michigan State Youth Soccer Association. “I am excited to inspire, encourage and guide others on a journey to a healthier lifestyle.”

Afton joined the MAC and East Hills Personal Training Team in December 2011 upon her graduation from GVSU. She has completed her certification with NSCA as a Certified Personal Trainer and is anxious to begin her career as a health and fitness professional. Afton has expertise in a variety of sports including basketball, lacrosse and cross country at the high school level as well as rugby at the collegiate level. Since completing her internship, Afton has gained the confidence and ability to guide clients of all skill levels to their greatest potential. Sara Wiercinski

Sara began her career at The MAC and East Hills in August 2009. She holds certifications through AFPA as a Pre/Post Natal Specialist and AFAA as a Group Strength and Resistance Training Specialist. In addition, Sara has a specialty certificate in Fundamentals for Nutrition and holds two cycling certifications; Mad Dogg and Kaiser M3. Sara’s passion for fitness has led her to continue her education and is now certified with NSCA as a Certified Personal Trainer. Sara focuses on building functional strength, fat loss and improving overall health and well-being.

Tim Houtz

Tim joined the training staff in April 2012. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Health and Fitness Instruction from Grand Valley State University. He is certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Corrective Exercise Specialist. In addition, Tim is actively pursuing certifications as a Performance Enhancement Specialist, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and as a US Olympic Lifting Coach. He has competed in sports ranging from baseball to wakeboarding and everything in between and has worked with athletes competing in football, basketball, track and field, and mountain biking. Whether you’re a weekend warrior preparing for an event, a top level athlete looking for a competitive edge, or somebody just wanting to look and feel healthier, Tim would love to work with you to achieve all of your fitness goals.
